Educational Activities Planned Statewide for Lead Poisoning Prevention Week in Louisiana

Today is the first day of National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (October 22-28, 2017), and Louisiana has big things planned!

Every October, National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week raises awareness about lead poisoning and its effects on children. The Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Public Health’s Healthy Homes and Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (LHHCLPPP) is teaming up with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to promote lead poisoning awareness in the state of Louisiana. Throughout the week, organizations in Louisiana and across the country are highlighting the following steps any family can take to keep themselves and their children safe from lead poisoning:

  1. Test your homes for lead
  2. Test your children for lead poisoning
  3. Get the facts and learn how to prevent lead poisoning

Any organization that works to improve public health, the safety of families, homes and communities is encouraged to host educational events about these steps!

More information about lead poisoning is available from the EPA at (800) 424-LEAD (5323). For resource packets for your Lead Poisoning Prevention Week activity or more information call (504) 568-8254 or email trina.evans@la.gov.
